Open standards for annotating and indexing networked media

It is fairly simple to include Annodex/CMML support into search engines. This page explains how it was done for CSIRO's Panoptic search engines.

Panoptic is a generic Web search engine that CSIRO has developed. It is being sold as an enterprise search engine for use in Intranets and on public enterprise Web sites and has won several awards for its high search results quality.

The Panoptic research team has included support for indexing Annodex files into their search engine product. They have done so by making use of the "Accept" header of HTTP for getting CMML out of Annodex. Crawling of Annodex files is then implemented by following the hyperlinks in the anchor ("a") tags of the extracted CMML.
